FULL NAME OF ORGANIZATION  : World Concern Development Organization

SECTORS OF WORK   : In order to enhance community well-being and community capacity, World Concern Myanmar's programs combine community mobilization with components from a "menu of options", based on needs identified by local communities. Sectors addressed include primary health care, HIV/AIDS prevention & care, nutrition, agriculture, natural resource management, micro-finance, and organizational capacity building of community and social organizations.

Brief Program Description

1. Program         : Food Security
   Overall Goal    : Assist communities in achieving food security through improved production, marketing, income generation and resource
                                management
   Activities          : Agricultural, livestock, forestry, and post-harvest technology development and extension to community agriculture workers
                               and farmers through Farmer Field Schools and specialized training. Support to registration and management of
                               agricultural land and community forest. Exchange on best practices at different levels (community, area, regional and
                               national), both in community development programs and in networks of Food Security Working Group, for which WCM is
                               lead agency for the Capacity Building for Food Security project.
   Location          : Kachin, Mon and Northern Shan States; starting in Sagaing Division and Kayin State

2. Program        : Micro-Finance
   Overall Goal   : Capital support as means for communities to improve their livelihood and community management skills, to encourage
                               mutual support, and to complement technical training
   Activities         : Rice banks managed by community rice bank committees to provide food stock in production season. Formation, training
                             and working capital assistance to Self-Help Groups that serve as platform for mutual support, technical training, and     
                              savings & credit. Location: Kachin, Mon and Northern Shan States

3. Program        : Relief
  Overall Goal     : Post opium eradication relief to counter negative effects on household economy and community-level health and 
                               education services
  Activities           : Rice distribution to vulnerable people and school children, food-for-work for community projects, food-for-training for HIV
                               awareness raising and livelihood training, as cooperating partner of the World Food Program.
  Location           : Northern Shan State

4. Program       : HIV/AIDS prevention & care
   
Overall Goal  : To decrease community members' vulnerability to HIV/AIDS and care for PLWHA through an integrated approach
    Activities        : Identify ways to address HIV/AIDS issues in all programs and sectors (mainstreaming approach). Train and support peer
                             educators to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS and to teach life skills. Equip community counselors and home-based care
                             providers to support people living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic diseases. Assist communities in identifying ways to
                             support chronically ill and other marginalized people.
    Location        : Kachin, Mon and Northern Shan States

5. Program       : Community Health Development
    Overall Goal  : Enhance rural communities' capacity to improve and sustain their health
    Activities        : Train and support volunteer community health workers and community health & development committees to mobilize 
                              their communities and to create sustainable health practice changes through Health Education and Primary Health Care
                              with special focus on malaria, diarrhea and acute respiratory infections.
    Location       : Kachin, Mon and Northern Shan States

6. Program      : Water & Sanitation
   Overall Goal  : Assist village communities to develop sustainable water supply systems and sanitation practices which enhance the
                             well-being of the communities.
   Activities        : Organize and facilitate development of village water committees and community action plans addressing water supply
                            and sanitation. Organize, train and consult on construction and maintenance of hand-dug wells, gravity-fed water systems,
                            and fly-proof latrines.
