DESCRIPTION :
SWISSAID is a private, secular,
humanitarian foundation,
established in 1948 to promote
social reconstruction after
WWII, with the Head Office in
Bern, Switzerland has a
Memorandum of Agreement with the
Progress of Border Area and
National Races Department (Na Ta
La).
Goal
and Objectives:
Swissaid aims to promote
integrated, sustainable
development and reduce poverty
with the poor through a
participatory, holistic approach
in sustainable agriculture,
natural resources management,
and human resource development,
including gender aspects, at the
grassroots level. Swissaid aims
towards a society where people
and their natural environment
coexist in harmony by promoting
communities' economic and social
livelihood, cultural integrity,
and indigenous knowledge and
methods. Swissaid also aims to
promote local Myanmar
organization and their role in
civil society in Myanmar.
Additionally, Swissaid aims to
promote, peace and inclusiveness
through the development work.
Activities and Programme:
Swissaid promotes working
directly with the actors and
beneficiaries in a multi-sectoral
and participatory approach.
Swissaid supports the
organization development and
capacity building of local
organizations (NGOs and
community –based organizations)
and their staff. We aim to
implement these initiatives
utilizing a variety of methods
including: Supporting direct
implementation by local
organizations; Training courses,
workshops, seminars, and other
method of capacity building and
practical skills development;
Sharing experiences as farmer-
to – farmer exchanges, regional
roundtable discussions, and
networking with other
organizations; and Exposure
trips and project visits,
supplementary micro-finance
mechanism as revolving funds,
savings and credit programs,
community cooperative shops, and
livestock and rice banks.
Swissaid also supports small-
scale community-based
infrastructure projects. The
Swissaid Gender Policy aims for
the integration of Gender into
all project aspects.
Key
sectors include;
1)
Sustainable agriculture,
integrated farm management,
integrated pest management,
animal husbandry, aquaculture
and upland agriculture;
2)
Natural Resource Management,
Community forestry, Watershed
management, Environment
education, and Herbal medicine
promotion;
3)
Promotion of local
organizations, organization
development and management,
human resource development,
vocational education, and early
childhood development.
