IEC Orientation & Implementation Workshop of CBFS Project

The CBFS project aims to achieve two major goals by conducting these workshops which helps to understand why it is important to focus on IEC/BCC (Behavioral Change Communication) issue. The project also contributes in reaching expected objectives, understanding basic knowledge on IEC and allows work-related experience sharing among fellow colleagues in the IEC/BCC area.

On the first two days, the IEC orientation workshop covered the introduction to IEC, BCC (Behavioral Change Communication), as well as introducing the media, creativity, cultural sensitivity and pre-testing procedures. After the two-day orientation workshop, 5 draft posters on Home Gardening were created by the participants as an outcome of the orientation workshop.

In the IEC implementation workshop, two guest speakers were invited to give a presentation on basic knowledge on printed media by U Myo Min Nyein (Editor) and creative writing by Ma Thida (Sangyoung). The second workshop was mainly focused on practical exercises such as designing the final layout for home gardening posters and the development of a home gardening pamphlet. Due to the workshop, the participants had a chance to apply what they’ve learnt theoretically. With the help of a cartoonist and graphic designer, the participants successfully finished the layout and the design of the Home Gardening poster and pamphlet. Over 20 participants from FSWG partner organizations participated in both workshops on 7-8 September and 4-5 December, 07.

Testimonials from Participants

I didn’t know about IEC till now. I didn’t even know the full meaning of "IEC". Now I know what IEC is and how to develop IEC materials etc. I gained plenty of knowledge from both the IEC orientation and implementation workshops. I am inspired to create IEC materials by myself and I need to learn more in the future.
[Kyaw Myo Aung, GRET]

As far as I know, organizing an IEC workshop is a very rare event. There is no special activity as this kind of training and it is also an excellent idea to organize a workshop on IEC material development. For us, it is a change. I have developed IEC materials before but I just send it to the printing house. I don’t know the details and now I have learnt all the necessary information on IEC materials development. In fact, if you want to work as a professional in IEC production area, there is still a lot more to learn. But I think it is very good to have two workshops which cover quite much on this subject.
[Sabai Hlaing, Htatabin Project, Welthungerhilfe]

What I have received from the workshop are the inspiration and the desire to create more. I believe we could create more effective IEC materials by applying what we have learnt from both IEC workshops.
[Myat Htet Aung Min, World Vision Myanmar]
