1. ADRA Myanmar Profile

ADRA Myanmar is organized as a non profit, non government, development and relief international organization, an independent, humanitarian agency established by the Seventh-day Adventist Church with the specific purpose of individual and community development and disaster response. ADRA helps people without regard to age, gender, ethnicity, or political or religious association; need being the fundamental criteria for all concerned interventions. This directive is an outgrowth of a deeply held belief that human life is infinitely valuable.

ADRA is an international network of independent ADRA country offices that operates in 125 countries around the world with development and relief assistance valued at $US175 million in 2005, benefiting over 24 million people world wide. ADRA set up in Myanmar in the year 1984 and signed MOU with the Ministry of Health in July 20, 1993 and renewed on Feb 3, 2006. ADRA Myanmar is also preparing to sign MOU with the Ministry of Agriculture and Boarder Development, currently.

The central office is located in the capital city of Myanmar and 7 satellite offices in:

• Pyinsalu Township, Ayeyardwaddy Division
• Wakema Township, Ayeyardwaddy Division
• Pakokku Township, Magwe Division
• Hsi Hsaing Township, Southern Shan State
• Laukai Township, Kokant Special Region 1, Northern Shan State
• Namtit Township, Wa Special Region 2, Northern Shan State
• Buthitaung & Maung Daw Township, Northern Rakhine State

The program has six cores:

• Water& Sanitation
• Food Security
• Primary Health
• Basic Education
• Disaster Rehabilitation
• Infrastructures

Groups of people targeted by each project include poor families, disaster victims, children and youth, school-drop-outs, mothers, teachers, farmers, herders, etc.

The organization’s operation has been guided by the Board members which consist of key personnel of its mother organization, the Seventh-day Adventist church. The organization is audited internally by its internal auditors from the division in South East Asia and its projects are audited by external independent auditors. The main donors include UN Agencies, EC, SDC, AusAid, NZAid, and ADRA network offices such as ADRA Australia, ADRA Canada, ADRA Germany, ADRA Japan, ADRA New Zealand, ADRA USA, ADRA Norway and ADRA Swiss.

2. ADRA’s Belief statement

• It is an agency of change, and an instrument of grace and providence.
• A true and equitable partnership with those in need will result in a practical and dynamic relationship and in sustainable change.
• Age, gender, race, and culture enrich our communities and our endeavors, and are assets to be nurtured and developed.
• In participatory development which is gender inclusive and provides equal opportunity to individuals of differing ethic, religious and cultural backgrounds.
• All persons have equal rights to health, education, self-realization, and fulfillment of socio-economic potential.
• The complete utilization of women's capabilities is a vital component of the development process and of a successful society.
• Every child should have a future filled with opportunity, and the freedom to choose his or her future.
• Information and participatory training free individuals to fulfill their potential.
• Families and communities are the building blocks of personal character and society.
• Its constituencies are defined through its primary relationships, including the Church, the donors, the communities, and other development partners.
• Each society must care for and faithfully manage the natural resources of the world.
• All resources, opportunities, and advantages are gifts which must be responsibly managed and shared.
• Integrity at every level is an appropriate expectation due all partners in the development process.

3. ADRA’s Mission Statement

ADRA's mission is to .....

• Reflect the character of God through humanitarian and developmental activities.
• Actively support communities through a portfolio of development activities which are planned and implemented cooperatively.
• Provide assistance in situation of crisis or chronic distress, and work toward the development of long-term solutions with those affected.
• Work through equitable partnerships with those in need to achieve positive and sustainable change in communities.
• Build networks which develop indigenous capacity, appropriate technology, and skills at all levels.
• Develop and maintain relationships with our partners and constituents which provide effective channels for mutual growth and action.
• Promote and expand the equitable and participatory involvement of women in the development process.
• Advocate for and assist in the increased use of communities' capacities of their environment.
• Facilitate the right and ability of all children to attain their full potential, and assist in assuring the child's survival to achieve that potential.

4. Listing of the Operating Principles

•  ADRA upholds its beliefs and mission in its decision making at all levels.
• ADRA maintains a balance in all allocation of resources which allows for the continued viability of both relief and development  
   activities at all levels.
• ADRA maintains a full commitment to long-term sustainable development initiatives which are appropriate to local needs.

• ADRA undertakes humanitarian and developmental assistance, avoiding discrimination based on race, ethnicity, gender, political or
   religious affiliation.
• ADRA ensures an efficient channel between identified needs and donor and constituent resources.
• ADRA recognizes that its constituencies are diverse but identifiable and is sensitive to each constituency's needs.
• ADRA is committed to technical excellence in all its activities.
• ADRA implements development processes which are based on community needs assessment and which incorporate appropriate
  input from all participating levels.
• ADRA furthers the growth and health of communities through developmental assistance to economic infrastructure, schools, health
  care facilities, and other services.
• ADRA promotes effective quality communication throughout its network.
• ADRA periodically evaluates and redefines its policies through self-appraisal and assessment to improve its operations.
• ADRA acknowledges that its personnel are of essential value and must, therefore, be treated with fairness, respect, and equity.
• ADRA carries out policies which define and dedicate appropriate resources to the development and upgrading of its human
